How do I record a piece?

Tap New Recording from the library screen, set your time signature and tempo (optionally enabling the metronome), then tap the microphone button and play. Tap it again to stop. Leopold transcribes your performance and takes you to the editor automatically.

Can I use a recording I already made instead of recording live?

Yes — on the New Recording screen, tap Upload an audio file instead to transcribe an existing audio file from your device.

Leopold isn't hearing my piano. What should I check?

• Make sure you granted microphone permission when prompted (check Settings → Leopold → Microphone on iOS, or App info → Permissions on Android).
• Record in a quiet room — background noise and talking can affect transcription accuracy.
• Keep your phone within a few feet of the piano, ideally facing the strings/soundboard.
• If you use the built-in metronome, use headphones so the click track isn't picked up by the microphone along with your playing.

The transcription isn't quite right. Can I fix it?

Yes. After recording, you land in the Piano Roll editor, where you can select, move, quantize, or delete individual notes. Use Quantize to snap loosely-timed notes to the grid, and the grid-size selector to change editing precision.

My piano is slightly out of tune — does that affect results?

Leopold includes a tuning calibration option to compensate for pianos that are a bit sharp or flat, which keeps pitch detection accurate even on an imperfect instrument. You can find this in Settings.

What's the difference between Piano Roll and Sheet Music view?

Piano Roll is where you edit notes directly. Sheet Music is a read-only preview generated from the Piano Roll, showing your performance as standard notation. To change what appears in Sheet Music view, edit the notes in Piano Roll — the notation updates automatically.

What can I export to?

Leopold exports to MIDI (.mid) for use in a DAW or notation software, MusicXML (.musicxml) for programs like MuseScore, Sibelius, or Finale, and a PNG image of your rendered sheet music.

Where are my saved projects stored?

Everything is saved locally on your device — there's no account and no cloud sync. Tap the save icon in the editor to keep a project in your library, where it'll appear on the home screen until you delete it.

I deleted a project by accident. Can I get it back?

Unfortunately no — since projects are stored only on your device and not backed up to any server, deleting a project in the app removes it permanently. Consider exporting a project you care about before deleting it.
